Meeting Details

The next Northside Conservatives meeting is Friday, October 9th at 7:15 AM, our final meeting before Election Day, at Briarwood Golf Club (3405 NE Trilein Dr, Ankeny).

We will hear from the Republican candidates running to represent Ankeny in the Legislature and the Republican candidate for Polk County Attorney.

John Hollinrake - Candidate | Iowa Senate District 21

John Hollinrake is running for Iowa Senate District 21, which encompasses almost all of Ankeny. Senate District 21 is the most competitive district in 2026, and electing a Republican from Ankeny is crucial to retaking the supermajority in the Iowa Senate. 

A lifelong Iowan with deep roots in the community, John is running to stand up for Iowa’s conservative values and defeat Democrats’ liberal agenda. In the Iowa Senate he will fight to ensure property tax relief, eliminate the income tax, protect the Second Amendment, and support working families by strengthening community college and job training programs.

John is ready to get to work for his neighbors and make sure Ankeny has a strong voice at the table in the Iowa Senate. 

Born in Des Moines and raised in Ankeny, he graduated from Ankeny Centennial High School. The son of two military parents, he learned the value of service, hard work, and integrity at an early age.

He is the founder of Hollinrake Properties, a real estate development company based in the Des Moines area. He is an active parishioner at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church and a former volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa.

Ryan Weldon - Incumbent | Iowa House District 41

Ryan Weldon represents House District 41 in north Ankeny, currently serving his first term in the Iowa House of Representatives. Before running for office, he served as President of the Ankeny School Board. He works full time as a Digital Business Development Manager for Iowa Bankers Insurance and Services. Ryan is also active in his community as board president of The Conservatory of Worship Arts in Ankeny and Executive Pastor at Journey Church in Urbandale.

He and his wife of 21 years live in Ankeny with their four children.

Heather Stephenson - Candidate | Iowa House District 42

Heather Stephenson is a native Iowan who lives in Ankeny with her husband and 3 children. Heather earned her Associate of Arts from DMACC, a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Public Administration from Iowa State University, and a Doctor of Education from Maryville University.

Heather worked in the State of Iowa’s child welfare and juvenile justice system. After 9/11 her husband was an active member of the armed services in combat operations, and during this time Heather leaned out of her career to stay home with her children for nearly 12 years. During this time, she served on multiple boards working on behalf of military kids and families as well as spending many hours volunteering in her children’s elementary school.

After her husband’s retirement from the Iowa National Guard, Heather returned to the labor force. When Heather re-entered her career, she found a home in Iowa’s community college system working with students as an academic advisor. In addition to her work with college students, Heather completed her Substitute Authorization and worked as a Substitute Teacher at her children’s elementary school, helping to keep the doors open during COVID.

Heather is an active member of her community and currently serves as a Board Trustee for the Ankeny Kirkendall Library. Heather currently works as an instructor at DMACC.

Jonah Dyer - Candidate | Polk County Attorney

Jonah’s a native of Phoenix, Arizona; the second of six children. 

Shortly after graduating from high school, he left the country to be a missionary for two years in Mexico, returning in December of 2003. Three months after returning home, he married his high-school sweetheart. Over the next three years he worked full-time as an officer in the Arizona Department of Corrections while going to school full-time in the evenings, graduating Arizona State University in December 2006.

Jonah and his little family moved to Des Moines in 2007 for law school at Drake University.  Shortly before graduation, he was invited by a few of his classmates to join them in starting a law firm. In 2012, he left the firm to strike out on his own and formed JHD Law.

Jonah is widely respected by judges, prosecutors, and police officers.  He’s running for Polk County Attorney to restore trust in the justice system, protect victims of crime, and hold offenders accountable. 

He and his wife, Jennii, have been married for nearly 23 years.  They are the parents of 10 children - 7 boys and 3 girls.  They are currently residents of Johnston.

The Ankeny Chamber of Commerce is holding a candidate forum on Monday, October 12th from 5:30-7:00 PM at the Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library. Come out to hear from the candidates who are running to represent Ankeny this November!
