About the Party
Who We Are
The Republican Party of Polk County is the official governing organization for Republicans in our county, working alongside the Republican Party of Iowa to elect Republicans to office and promote our shared values. We organize the biennial Caucus, support candidates through fundraising and grassroots efforts, and provide a strong voice for Republicans in Polk County.
At the heart of our organization is the Central Committee, made up of two elected Precinct Committeepersons (PCPs) from each of Polk County’s 176 precincts. PCPs are elected during the Caucus and serve two-year terms as the vital link between voters, the county party, and elected officials.
Our Mission
The Polk County Republican Central Committee is committed to empowering individuals to promote Republican values and elect Republican candidates at all levels. Through grassroots efforts, we engage our communities, grow our membership, and strengthen our Party by encouraging each member to lead in their precinct and neighborhood.
Our Goals
- Recruit and Grow Membership: Encourage members to personally recruit new supporters and voters who share our values in their communities and neighborhoods.
- Fundraise and Support Precincts: Mobilize members to fundraise for their precincts, ensuring that local efforts are well-resourced and effective.
- Engage Your Neighborhood: Talk with neighbors, spread the word about Republican candidates and policies, and build strong local support for our Party.
- Elect Republican Candidates: Work together to organize events, increase voter turnout, and help Republicans win at the local, state, and national level.
- Organize at the Block Level: Build a network of volunteers and supporters in each neighborhood to stay connected with voters year-round.
- Enhance Voter Education and Participation: Educate voters about Republican candidates, policies, and the issues that matter most to our communities
The Role of Precinct Committeepersons (PCPs)
Precinct Committeepersons are the foundation of the Polk County GOP. They are the Republican voice for their precincts, serving as both leaders and liaisons. As voting members of the Central Committee, PCPs:
- Elect the County Chair and Co-Chair
- Approve the budget and bylaws
- Serve as the grassroots link between voters and party leadership
Beyond governance, PCPs play a hands-on role in winning elections and building Republican strength by:
- Registering voters and increasing participation in elections
- Assisting Republican campaigns through canvassing, literature drops, and Get-Out-the-Vote (GOTV) efforts
- Promoting Republican candidates at parades, festivals, and community events
- Identifying yard sign locations and recruiting volunteers and poll watchers
- Supporting and helping run the precinct caucus
- Considering service as delegates to the County, District, and State Conventions
Why It Matters
Every precinct is vital to Republican success. By serving as a PCP or supporting our efforts, you take an active role in strengthening our grassroots, building community connections, and ensuring Republican victories in Polk County and beyond.
