The next Northside Conservatives meeting is Friday, August 14th at 7:15 AM at Briarwood Golf Club (3405 NE Trilein Dr, Ankeny).

Our speakers are Zach Lahn who is running for Governor, and Ankeny City Manager Mike Schrock. Mike will discuss the Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) that will be on the ballot at a special election this September 8th.

Zach Lahn

Zach Lahn is a 6th generation Iowan who was born and raised in Sioux City, and now resides on his family farm in Belle Plaine. Zach’s family came to Iowa over 100 years ago in 1884, built their family farm, and lived there until 2005, when it was sold. In 2014, Zach bought back his family’s homestead, where he and his wife, Annie, are raising their family.  He is running on a strong Iowa-First platform that includes 4 key issues: saving Iowa’s family farms, combatting the cancer crisis, making Iowa’s education #1, and keeping our kids in Iowa.

Mike Schrock

Mike Schrock is the City Manager of Ankeny, leading municipal administration for one of the fastest-growing communities in the Midwest. Mike joined the Ankeny organization in 2021 as the Assistant City Manager and was subsequently appointed to the role of City Manager in December of 2025.

As the chief administrative officer, Mike answers directly to the Ankeny City Council to ensure daily municipal operations run efficiently, public infrastructure keeps pace with growth, and the city’s multi-million-dollar budget is managed with strict fiscal discipline.

Prior to his work in Ankeny, Mike served for more than 12 years as the City Manager of Oskaloosa, Iowa, where he focused on strategic downtown revitalization and preservation, greyfield redevelopment, industrial headquarter retention, and long-range local and regional infrastructure planning and construction projects.

His extensive background also includes budget and operational roles in Surprise, Arizona, where he served as the Director of Management and Budget, Interim Public Works Director, and the Assistant to the City Manager.  Mike holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University.
